This report defines a methodology to support cost-effective and discrete underwater surveillance and reconnaissance using gliders. Recently, the Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE) has revised a glider path planning tool, a MATLABĀ® software package designed to increase the performance underwater glider navigation, introducing environmental factors into the motion model. Simulation results (discussed in CMRE-MR-2018-008) have a promising support to mission planning as well as to asset search and secure, pollution management and risk analysis. The goal of the presented study is to mitigate the risk of a glider surfacing due to the presence of vessels. This is done by incorporating information about live vessel positions into a glider navigation simulator. The presented approach is applied to three real case gliders deployments.
